Bean Boots, and why you should buy them for Christmas.

L.L. Bean was founded by, well, Leon Leonwood Bean in 1912 and this boot design, “The Maine Hunting Boot” was his first product.

Rain, rain. . . Oh, for cryin’ out loud!

If you live anywhere near the East Coast, you’ve spent the last forty days and forty nights listening to the gentle pitter-patter of raindrops hitting absolutely everything.

Those of us that live here in the harbor understand that, environmentally speaking, we live in a temperate rainforest, and like the Brits we are used to rain.

A Maine Winter, 2010

While Mother Earth and her sadist lover, Winter, beat up the remainder of the East Coast, I’m happy to say that so far the Winter in Boothbay Harbor has been almost enjoyable.

How often does DC have to negociate daily life through a meter of snow, and in Boothbay Harbor the sun is shining and it’s a balmy 48 degrees. This, however, is not a case of schadenfreude. Other people should shovel snow once in a while, too.
